R-connectivity Augmentation in Trees

چکیده
A vertex separator of a connected graph G is a set of vertices removing which will result in two or more connected components and a minimum vertex separator is a set which contains the minimum number of such vertices, i.e., the cardinality of this set is least among all possible vertex separator sets. The cardinality of the minimum vertex separator refers to the connectivity of the graph G. A connected graph is said to be k− connected if removing exactly k vertices, k ≥ 1, from the graph, will result in two or more connected components and on removing any (k−1) vertices, the graph is still connected. A connectivity augmentation set is a set of edges which when augmented to a k-connected graph G will increase the connectivity of G by r, r ≥ 1, making the graph (k+r)-connected and a minimum connectivity augmentation set is such a set which contains a minimum number of edges required to increase the connectivity by r. In this paper, we shall investigate a r-connectivity augmentation in trees, r ≥ 2. As part of lower bound study, we show that any minimum r-connectivity augmentation set in trees requires at least ⌈ 1 2 r−1 ∑ i=1 (r − i) × li⌉ edges, where li is the number of vertices with degree i. Further, we shall present an algorithm that will augment a minimum number of edges to make a tree (k + r)-connected.

Tri-connectivity Augmentation in Trees
For a connected graph, a minimum vertex separator is a minimum set of vertices whose removal creates at least two connected components. The vertex connectivity of the graph refers to the size of the minimum vertex separator and a graph is k-vertex connected if its vertex connectivity is k, k ≥ 1. Given a k-vertex connected graph G, the combinatorial problem vertex connectivity augmentation asks...
متن کاملThe eccentric connectivity index of bucket recursive trees
If $G$ is a connected graph with vertex set $V$, then the eccentric connectivity index of $G$, $xi^c(G)$, is defined as $sum_{vin V(G)}deg(v)ecc(v)$ where $deg(v)$ is the degree of a vertex $v$ and $ecc(v)$ is its eccentricity. In this paper we show some convergence in probability and an asymptotic normality based on this index in random bucket recursive trees.

متن کاملSubgraph Induced Planar Connectivity Augmentation
Given a planar graph G = (V,E) and a vertex set W ⊆ V , the subgraph induced planar connectivity augmentation problem asks for a minimum cardinality set F of additional edges with end vertices in W such that G′ = (V,E∪F ) is planar and the subgraph of G′ induced by W is connected. The problem arises in automatic graph drawing in the context of c-planarity testing of clustered graphs. We describ...

We consider the problem of increasing the connectivity of a given graph to two at optimal cost. Fredrickson and Ja'Ja' 6] showed that that this problem is NP-hard and provided approximation algorithms. Recently, Khuller and Thurimella 7] have extended these results and presented a more eecient version of the results in 6]. We consider an extension of this problem to a more general setting. In t...
